LAKE WYLIE FAMILY CHIROPRACTIC – SERVICES
Our goal is to help every patient who comes in our office become more aware of the nature of their health issues and then to offer them the most reasonable and effective course of care to help address them. It really is about putting the patient first and acting in his/her best interest.
Doctors of Chiropractic – often referred to as chiropractors or chiropractic physicians – practice a drug-free, hands-on approach to health care that includes patient examination, diagnosis and treatment. Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.
While many people only seek chiropractic care for back or neck pain, patients frequently find benefit from it for:
- Neck and back pain
- Frequent headaches/migraines
- Sleep problems
- Numbness/tingling in arms or legs
- Jaw pain, facial nerve pain (trigeminal neuralgia)
- Pain in shoulders, hips, knees, elbows
- Injury from a sports or automotive accident
- Postural problems
- Just a desire for better health and overall well being.
Dr. Marcia Moyers, a gifted chiropractor and licensed acupuncturist, also practices in our office and is available to offer her own talents and approaches to new patients. You can book your appointment with her through our front desk at 803-831-6500 or visit her own site at www.DocMarcia.com.
Soft Tissue Therapies and Rehab
Sometimes patients come to us with issues that involve soft tissue damage and injury rather than skeletal misalignments and we are equipped and happy to treat them as well. Once a diagnosis of the problem has been made, the following therapies and modalities may be employed to help patient’s comfort and speed recovery. Ultrasound- deep tissue heat therapy, good for bringing blood flow to an affected area and speeding healing Electric stimulation- helpful for managing pain of soft tissue injury and rehabilitating injured muscle Trigger point therapy/myofascial release – Use of manual therapy to find and release muscle tightness. Effective for pain relief and releasing muscular adhesions. (Also makes adjustments easier and more effective.) Exercise and Stretch therapies- Sometimes patients will be instructed on activities they can do at home to speed their recovery and maintain the progress they have made so far.
We are pleased to have an outstanding method available for painlessly reducing spinal and cervical (neck) disc bulges. This method has been proven time and time again as an effective and lasting alternative treatment to surgery for many patients. (Dr. Hartley even receives a number of patients through referrals from some of Charlotte’s top neurosurgeons who want to help patients avoid surgery.) These specialists will advise the patient of the effectiveness of this approach and then recommend that they seek care from Dr. Hartley for a month or two to see if their problem can be addressed through spinal decompression. Most of the time, their referrals are successfully treated and are pleased to be able to avoid surgery. If a bulge is too pronounced, it may be untreatable by decompression therapy. In that case, Dr. Hartley will quickly make that determination and will recommend that a patient seek the care of a neurosurgeon to consider other options. Spinal decompression therapy is often effective at reducing pain from joint disease and can also be useful in treating spinal stenosis. If you are a candidate for this therapy, Dr. Hartley will discuss it with you.

Neurofeedback is a scientifically proven, drug free protocol that directly trains the brain to function more efficiently and effectively. People affected by the following conditions often find measurable improvement by employing this safe and effective therapy. sleep disorders (insomnia, nightmares, sleepwalking) hyperactivity ADD, ADHD, (adults and children) seizures, anxiety/stress substance abuse brain injury chronic migraines Post traumatic stress changes brought about by aging How does it work? After a thorough EEG evaluation of the patient’s brain wave ratios in a variety of activities, a unique prescription is developed to help improve the brain’s function. By actively involving the patient in each treatment, we reward the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns. Repetition of this treatment creates physiological changes in the brain so that it can perform more effectively. This therapy is substantially supported by years of research in the medical and mental health fields and has been found to be a safe and effective tool for improving these conditions without the risks and expense of long term medications. Neurofeedback is also referred to as EEG Biofeedback, because it is based on electrical brain activity, the electroencephalogram, or EEG. Children respond well to this therapy and enjoy the sessions just as much as the adult patients. While major changes take place over a series of sessions, most patients report feeling calmer and refreshed after each session. For more information on our neurofeedback therapy, click here.
Sometimes persistent lower back pain or discomfort in the hips and knees is directly linked to a problem with a patient’s feet. Pronation, collapsed arches and other feet abnormalities can cause discomfort in other areas of the body. If Dr. Hartley believes that a foot abnormality may be at the root of recurring discomfort, he may recommend that the patient consider using custom made orthotic inserts. We custom cast them here and the office and are pleased to have a supplier that provides an excellent orthotic at a reasonable cost.
